What Cloud Platform Should Your Small or Mid-sized Business Use?

person on laptop

Different type of cloud platformsAbout 5 years ago, i f you said, “It’s in the cloud,” people would generally look up at the sky and wonder what the heck you were talking about. Now, it’s all about the cloud. But how do you determine which cloud server is right for you and your business?

There are a lot of factors to consider when deciding whether you utilize a private, hybrid or public cloud. Is the information that you’re storing classified? What’s your budget? How much data do you need to store?

There are benefits to all three types, but which suites you best?

Do you want exclusive access, more flexibility and greater control? If so, you should opt for the private cloud that is built internally. This will provide the most privacy and not allow your employees to have access from anywhere. Although a costlier option, this may be the safest way to ensure your data is secure.

For smaller businesses who don’t have sensitive customer data to keep secure, the public cloud may be right for you. Examples of public clouds include Google, Microsoft, IBM and AWS. Public clouds provide flexibility, cost-effectiveness and are always up-to-date on the latest technology.

Want a combination of these two options? Check out the hybrid cloud. The hybrid cloud uses a mix of public and private clouds. It leverages the flexibility of a public cloud and the size of a private cloud.

According to a Yankee Group recent survey on Cloud Computing, private cloud computing is preferred 2:1 over fully managed public cloud solutions. 67% of respondents preferred the private cloud, whereas only 28% preferred a fully managed public cloud, 21% preferred an unmanaged public cloud, and 8% were looking to a hybrid cloud solution. So why is a private cloud preferred? With a private cloud, you know where your servers are located and that the proper physical and network security is in place.

Yes, the cloud is all the hype these days. But what does taking your business to the cloud entail, and how can your business save money, time or create value by using Cloud Technology? That’s where Valeo Networks comes in – we can help you plan, build and manage your private, hybrid or public cloud. Have peace of mind that failed hardware will not take down your environment.
